Infrastructure is important to the economic growth and competitiveness of our city. Due to decades of neglect our roads and bridges are crumbling and are in need of more investment.
Every year, the government fails to invest in the nation’s roads, bridges, highways, sewage canals, water pipes, railroads, electricity and other critical infrastructure, the country is falling behind other countries that do regular maintenance work. Driving along potholes on streets is causing billions of dollars in extra car repair costs for drivers on the road, and businesses face greater costs to bring goods to market. We, therefore, support a massive public infrastructure investment program to ensure the regular maintenance and expansion of our currently crumbling infrastructure.
The added advantage of a big infrastructure program is the ability to create thousands of well-paying jobs at a time of high unemployment and underemployment.
